Back Home – The Terminator

February 10th, 2010

I had a very dense trip back, not much time to write and hardly any time to take photos. I shall mention only one thing. I flu Emirates from Dubai to Sydney – 14 hours upstairs in the business class section of a new Airbus 380-800.  It is a good experience.

After such a long flight, you get to your destination fresh and relaxed. Unless you spent too much time in their well-appointed round bar. It is through one of the bar windows that I took these photos of the Terminator – the line between day and night, which I reached just above the Equator over the Indian Ocean.

It is not such a fine line between day and night as one would expect.

This ends my three weeks trip. However, I have plenty of stories and photos that I may  share in this mockoblog at a later date. Thanks for following me and sorry to disappoint if my travel accounts  have been few and far in between. There are times to write and times to read. My trip to Europe and surely back was about living above all.

On My Way Back

February 7th, 2010

It’s been impossible for me to write during my next to three weeks stay in Europe. I have no real excuse, it wasn’t the lack of topics or the difficulty of charging my E71 or the no net or G3 coverage at times. I have no excuse. I just realised that this trip back to the Old Continent is a bit like a cross section into the core of my life. And life is not about places. Life is about people. During my tumultuous stay and travel in Europe I met people, I loved people, I made, lost, helped and hurt friends. I looked into myself. Yet this mockoblog tale should remain mainly about places.

So I took photos. Hundreds of them. In Romania, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. When will the time come for me to sort them out and publish them, I do not know, as life is rushing towards me at the speed of light.

As a good old friend would say – WHATEVER.

I say – anyway, let’s get on with it!

So I’m sitting in a cafe in Vienna Airport. Needless to say the only delayed flight on the board is mine, by three hours or so. Emirates were good enough to offer us a sandwich and a drink. This time I’m in no danger to miss a connection. I’m supposed to stay overnight in Dubai on my way to Sydney. It will probably be worse that missing a plane – I’ll miss my stay at the Millennium Hotel if I run out of time.

I’d like to sleep. Yesterday I travelled by car 800 kms through snow, slit and snow from Zurich to Vienna in 10 hours. Tough and late. Whatever. I’ll better get a drink.

Romania, at Last

January 19th, 2010

Wow!

My last flight went up from Vienna in snow clouds and up and up and up, then it felt like they cut the engines and descended steeply towards a snowy Bucharest, no side moves, straight onto the runway of the small domestic airport of Baneasa, where we landed perfectly in two inches of snow.

Still snowing now, 15 hours and one sleep later.

Impressions of Romania are scatchy so far. Too much happening in terms of everybody wanting to see me first and longest. I shall update the mockoposts when I get the chance to be on my own. Still snowing, snowing an 18 Celsus bellow forecast in some areas. I may be on the move if the trains are still going.

Keep in touch!
